a byte of information

On a roll and need a byte of help.
Things are changing with software.
The best way to earn money is to license your software so that you have to update it every year. I want to own it!!!

APPLE and ADOBE are complicit:

NO longer is imovie sharing - or exporting as a .mov only an mp4 format. SO how do you make a family video and give a burned CD to give to my aged mum? What happened she and myself really do not want it on youtube?  UGH!!
<Is this a sign of mega monopoly on the internet> - who is developing html5?

free video and other file converter - http://www.zamzar.com/
you will need 3 video types for html5- ogg, wdmv and mp4 - UGH.

Then you might want to use Java - jquery.
geckodesign has some great examples. Follow the instructions!

Design first - build later.

Do your roughs first  - ask yourself what does the  client want and how can I help them decide what they want.

One of the first thing with the internet you have to figure out what your client has in their head and how to interpret it.

A rough is only a generalization - a visual example of what your design might look like. Steer clear of building interactivity until you have your design complete.Wasted time!
Sketching is the key - it helps you think, churn through ideas, organize your information

A good blog that explains that is: http://tympanus.net/codrops/2013/01/29/planning-your-web-design-with-sketches/

DO YOUR RESEARCH - what and who is your competition?

WHAT IS THE USER DOING ON THE WEBSITE?
UX - User journey through your website  - great web development ideas and simply good web information.

VISUAL HIERARCHY - WHAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PIECE OF INFORMATION?

After you have solidified your design then you can think about interactivity and dynamic content.
